Converting Disco and FSG’s to BIP

Here’s the address to download the slides for today’s session. It’s in an hour’s time and the pressure is on, as last night I was awarded “UKOUG Inspiring Presentation 2010″ for last year’s presentation (”A BI Reporting Roadmap”).

Our session at this year’s UKOUG conference demonstrates some of the powerful functionality in BIP in the context of converting Discoverer and FSG (Financial Statement Generator) reports to BIP.

  • The session takes you through and end to end conversion of a FSG to a BIP report, concentrating on data templates.
  • I concentrate on Data templates as I’ve done loads of presentations on Presentation templates before (and some knowledge of them is assumed in this presentation).
  • The presentation culminates with bursting an FSG equivalent report (actual, budget, variance by cost centre and nominal, period and YTD (year to date)).
  • The report emulates drill down and is truly awe inspiring.

Check out the presentation here and get in touch with any questions or observations.

The Reporting Roadmap

I presented the results of a survey at a recent UKOUG SIG workshop on reporting and it was clear that reporting was a big current issue for most organisations.

I was shocked by the strength of feeling behind the statistic that 81% of users are only interested in “quick wins as part of a bigger solution”. (Very few wanted just quick wins, and even fewer wanted the big solution). We discussed small constructive steps which could be taken and I’ve put this together as a “Reporting Roadmap”. I’ve discussed this with a number of organisations, who think it a real winner. The Reporting Roadmap starts with maximising the free integrated functionality and progressing in small steps with low risk low cost interventions which all deliver quick payback.
